Starting out with the obivous - Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day and I have a love hate relationship. As a single doomed-to-be-cat-lady, the thought of Valentine's Day makes me want to vomit. Then there is the fact that it is a totally cheesey holiday filled with cheesey gifts, etc. But yet, there is still something I like about Valentine's Day that keeps me from totally writing the entire day off and spending it hiding under a rock. Maybe it's something to do with all the pink (I like pink - could you tell?). Maybe its the fact that it is close to my birthday (and I haven't yet gotten old enough to hate my birthday). Who knows...

I am obviously not doing anything special today. I am turning my brain into a puddle of mush at my incredibly boring job. I'm then going to freeze by going out to measure stream discharge for my Stream Ecology lab. Water sampling in the middle of winter is not the best idea, but it is suprisingly fun (if you can get past the frostbite). Streams are one of my favorite places for research (who can resist a good pair of chest waders?) because there is biology and chemistry all rolled into one project. Also, they are always changing, so every time you visit your site there is something new (that sounds like some kind of cheesey line out of Pocohantas or something, but I really don't mean it that way). The my fabulous day will end with handbell choir rehearsal which always ends up being greatly entertaining due to one specific crazy church lady who is perpetually confused and has no inner monologue whatsoever.

So much for romantic dinner, presents, or any intimacy of any kind... But I do get to wear pink!
